This is an article well worth reading. I know the author of this article and he is one of the administrators of RSOL. If you are a parent or anyone else that does not have a record as a sex offender, but are mad and don't want to these injustices in sex offender laws continue, then apply your signature to the growing list of people against these unjust and unjustified sex offender laws as they are applied.
Please, this is not a time to be afraid.
It's Time to Reform Sex Offender Laws
An Urgent Call to Support the Well-Being of Children and the Rights of Us All
By PAUL SHANNON
See the end of this article for a public statement you can sign to support the reform of existing sex offender laws. The names of some prominent people who have already signed are at the beginning of that statement. There is also information on how to sign the statement.
The rights of certain classes of people throughout history have been trampled on or non-existent in the United States. In our early history it was blacks. Not only did they have no rights, they were forced into slavery by the rich and powerful. Fortunately a president came along that understood the injustice of this practice. He believed in the constitution and though it was not a popular decision, he declared those people free. Even though it led to a civil war his conviction and belief in freedom did not falter.
That spirit and dedication to doing what is right and just seems to have been lost in today’s political arena. The black community is still fighting for, and guarding their rights. Since that time many other minorities have had to take up the battle. In a country that boasts freedom and justice for all this seems to be an oxymoron. We deny rights and freedom to some while others are immune to our laws. There seems to be a pattern here.
SORNA [Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act] is the federal law that implements the Adam Walsh Act, so even though the Adam Walsh Act is spoken of by states, they really are talking about the implementation law SORNA. Each state is required to implement the Adam Walsh Act, but there continue to be strong resistance to the section on juveniles, and in some states the resistance is against section III and the retroactive requirements of section I.
Colorado's version of SORNA consist mostly of stating current sex offender laws as meeting the requirements of SORNA. Colorado does not appear to be on a road of extremism as we have seen in other states that are making efforts to implement SORNA way beyond the floor set by the SMART Office, the directing federal organization of SORNA implementation.
Every so often a man comes along and tells the people he speaks with GOD and GOD speaks with him. Generally these deceivers are crafty smooth talkers, using religion to promote their god-like ambitions only to destroy those mindless minions that follow with little sense of reality.
Beck had his rally, and like many star struck fans his supporters were there to anoint Mr. Beck as the second coming. There have been many who have said; “here I am” only to prove to be a destroyer of the hapless minds of those who follow.
What is most interesting, but not surprising is the number of evangelical leaders behind Beck. Why is this not surprising but only interesting? Evangelicals have been and are members of the Arian Nation, the KKK, the brotherhood, of neo-Nazi groups, and other groups infuriated with all these people of color taking over America. It stands to reason that they “want their America back”.
When Barack Obama became President of the United States he immediately encountered stiff opposition and obstructionism from principally the Republican far right wing and Republican Conservatives. The president also encountered opposition from Democrats and Progressives who were horrified that Hilary Clinton and even Joe Biden lost, and lost to this virtually unknown figure Barack Obama. I need mention here also that it was not only opposition from the Republican right wing, Republican conservatives, horrified Democrats and Progressives, but also opposition from Republican leaning Independents, Libertarians, and other tribes of people specifically opposed to the occupation of the White House by a black man and his family. This was an outrage of highest order.
