House Majority Leader Jerry Keen of Georgia has spearheaded another piece of legislation directed at residency restrictions for sex offenders. Twenty nine members of the House voted against the legislation saying “While the legislation makes good press, it doesn’t make good sense,” said Rep. Roberta Abdul-Salaam, D-Riverdale.

Others against the bill made this comment: The new legislation has a good chance of being struck down because it didn’t recognize the property rights of renters, which the Georgia Supreme Court has upheld in previous rulings

House Majority Leader Jerry Keen a vigilante in a position of power. In the bill struck down by the Georgia Supreme Court late 2007, and in the new bill no attempt was made to separate the truly dangerous from those who are not dangerous. No matter how much persons' of reason try to reason with people such as House Majority Leader Jerry Keen, they run against a brick wall.

Locked in his mind as is the case with other vigilante’s of his stripe, the mere thought or speech of sex offender simply means "they are all the same and should be treated the same".

Because I have been a reasonable person all my life, I find it difficult to take the type of thinking that ensues from such closed minded people such as Jerry Keen, and here in Colorado, his twins, Balmer and Swalm, both House judiciary members of the Colorado General Assembly, and both republican.

I don't want to put all the horse dung on republicans because certainly there are plenty of Democrats that are just as closed minded and immoveable. One Democrat comes to mind Senator Green of Texas, and other Democrats who stood side by side with the republicans in pushing the AWA through to the signing into law by President Bush.

2008 is an election year of many legislators, and it will be very difficult to stop sex offender legislations from being crafted and even passed, all for the grooming of constituents and re-elections. In a very large way politicians regarding sex offenses and sex offenders think in a Utilitarian way, which simply means that no matter how egregious or unreasonable the means are, they will justify the end. Utilitarian's believe in sacrificing others on their political alters, convincing themselves and their constituents that the sacrificing of others justifies the goal for community safety.

The problem with Utilitarian beliefs is that their basic belief goes contrary to civil rights, goes contrary to human liberties, and goes against due process of law in order to achieve and unachievable goal of ridding society of all of its undesirables, especially the feared sex offender.
