NOTICE FOR ALL COLORADOAN'S

Date update: The No Known Cure meeting of the SOMB has been changed to September. I will get the exact date and place and post it here. If you are a Coloradoan please try to attend, it is open to the public.

The information contained in this post is about a SOMB meeting on the 20th of August concerning the NO KNOWN CURE Research. If you can please try to be there. I will be putting in for a day off from work to try and make this meeting. I probably will attend the all day event to hold my parking space, if I am fortunate enough to get a parking space. See the following chart and information for this meeting.

Date update August 29, 2010: SOMB Best Practice Committee, september 27, 2010, 9am to 11am, 700 Kipling Street, 1st floor conference room, Lakewood, CO, the No Known Cure Research as respects to juveniles. I don't see in the meeting schedule any mention of this meeting for adults,  but I will continue to stay on top of this as it is imperative that we make a showing.

Colorado's Adam Walsh Act (SORNA)

SORNA [Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act] is the federal law that implements the Adam Walsh Act, so even though the Adam Walsh Act is spoken of by states, they really are talking about the implementation law SORNA. Each state is required to implement the Adam Walsh Act, but there continue to be strong resistance to the section on juveniles, and in some states the resistance is against section III and the retroactive requirements of section I.

Colorado's version of SORNA consist mostly of stating current sex offender laws as meeting the requirements of SORNA. Colorado does not appear to be on a road of extremism as we have seen in other states that are making efforts to implement SORNA way beyond the floor set by the SMART Office, the directing federal organization  of SORNA implementation.

Human Rights Watch Report 2007 PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 September 2008 09:38
(New York, September 12, 2007) – Laws aimed at people convicted of sex offenses may not protect children from sex crimes but do lead to harassment, ostracism and even violence against former offenders, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. Human Rights Watch urges the reform of state and federal registration and community notification laws, and the elimination of residency restrictions, because they violate basic rights of former offenders.

"Politicians didn't do their homework before enacting these sex offender laws. Instead they have perpetuated myths about sex offenders and failed to deal with the complex realities of sexual violence against children."

Sarah Tofte, researcher for the US Program of Human Rights Watch and author, "No Easy Answers."
